WWE Wrestlemania 40 Day 1 Highlights: The Rock and Roman Reigns defeated Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins to set up Reigns vs Cody in Bloodline rules match tomorrow

WWE Wrestlemania 40 Day 1 Highlights: Cody Rhodes’ dream of winning the WWE Undisputed Universal Championship took a major hit on Day 1 of WrestleMania as he and Seth Rollins lost to The Rock and Roman Reigns. As per the condition, if Rhodes and Rollins lost – which they did – Cody will now face Reigns on Day 2 in a Bloodline Rules match. Which means, anything goes. It could be 2 on 1, three on 1 and even 5 on 1… and there’s nothing Cody Rhodes or Seth Rollins or anyone else can do about it.

Earlier, in one of the biggest unexpected results in the history of WrestleMania, Sami Zayn was crowned the new Intercontinental Champion when he ended Gunther’s 666-day reign as champion. After taking a brutal beating at the hands of the ring-general, Sami dug deep and gathered every fiber of his being to pull through and pin Gunther after three Helluva Kicks and a brain-buster off the top rope. Gunther hadn’t been pinned as he left behind The Honky Tonk Man’s 445-day tenure as IC champion. He has beaten all that have come his way 0 Kevin Owens, The Miz, Sheamus, Drew McIntyre.

After Triple H kicked off his first official WrestleMania fully in charge, The Game lived up to his promise. He welcomed the fans to ‘a new era’ before the show kicked off with the Women’s Heavyweight Championship. Rhea Ripley and Becky Lynch went at each other for almost half an hour before MAMI conquered The Man with a rip-tide to retain her title. It was last year at WrestleMania 39 that Ripley defeated Charlotte Flair in a match-of-the-year candidate and has held on to the title ever since.
In the six-pack ladder match, Team Awesome Truth, comprising The Miz and R-Truth went back in time and won the WWE Raw tag-team championship whereas Grayson Waller and Austin Theory captured the Smackdown tag titles. The 6-team tag match was followed by a traditional one where Rey Mysterio and Andrade defeated Dominik Mysterio and Santos Escobar. To top it all, Jey Uso beat Jimmy Uso in a brother vs brother match, that lived up to the expectations. It was physical, it was brutal, it was emotional with a bit of compassion too.

This WrestleMania has everything – legends returning, brother colliding and as many as three championships of the line. The main-event today was the star-studded tag-team match featuring Rock and Reigns up against Rollins and Rhodes. It was being dubbed as the biggest tag-team match of all time and there is little evidence to prove otherwise. The Rock, once the People’s Champion, has turned over a leaf that hasn’t been seen in 20 years.
