Unveiling Meghan Markle’s absence from Royal Easter traditions
Meghan Markle was a regular attendee at many of the royal family’s traditional events, such as Trooping the Colour and the annual Christmas walk. However, she never joined the family for their Easter church outing. In 2018, just weeks away from her wedding to Prince Harry, Meghan and Harry decided to skip the Easter gathering at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle, which also happened to be their wedding venue.
During that Easter service, Queen Elizabeth was accompanied by Prince William, Kate Middleton (who was pregnant with Prince Louis at the time), Princess Eugenie and her then-fiancée Jack Brooksbank, and Princess Beatrice. Meghan and Harry chose not to attend, opting for some private time before their big day.
The following year, in 2019, Meghan missed the Easter church outing again as she was pregnant with their first child, Archie, who was born just weeks later. However, Prince Harry attended the service on his own, as it was just a short trip from their U.K. home at Frogmore Cottage.
The decision not to attend these Easter services was a personal one for Meghan and Harry, and it reflected their desire for privacy and space during significant moments in their lives. Despite not attending these events, the couple always found ways to express their love and respect for the royal family.
In early 2020, Meghan and Harry made the decision to step back as senior members of the royal family, and later in March, they relocated to Meghan’s home state of California. This move marked a significant shift in their lives and their relationship with the royal family.
Reflecting on their decisions and the changes in their lives, Meghan and Harry’s journey has been one of seeking independence and carving out their own path. As Meghan once said, “I think what’s so important is that we’re not saying that we don’t want to be a part of it. It’s just about understanding what it looks like to be able to be part of that
Their choices have not always aligned with traditional royal expectations, but they have remained true to themselves and their values throughout their journey.
