Travis Kelce’s furious Super Bowl outburst at Chiefs coach Andy Reid could be ‘buried forever’

Kelce had the sideline argument heard around the world in the Kansas City Chiefs’ Super Bowl LVIII victory, furiously screaming at head coach Andy Reid and almost knocking over the highly respected 65-year-old team leader.

But while behind-the-scenes footage has continued to air from the Chiefs’ dynasty-making victory over the San Francisco 49ers in Las Vegas, nothing real has been heard from Kelce’s rant.

According to the New York Post, “the Chiefs blocked NFL Films — which captures the mic’d up audio — and Inside the NFL from airing the direct Kelce sound bite, with one saying he thought that this edict came from Reid.”

Kelce might have cursed at Reid on the sideline.

But without the live audio, the specifics of what Kelce could remain a Super Bowl mystery.

The Pro Bowl tight end later apologised to his veteran coach.

“I can’t get that fired up to the point where I’m bumping coach and it’s getting him off balance and stuff,” Travis said. “When he stumbled, I’m just like, ‘Oh s***,’ in my head.”

“Let’s be honest: The yelling in his face, too, is over the top,” Jason said. “I think there’s better ways to handle this, retrospectively.”

“As he said, I got him with a cheap shot,” Travis replied.

The Kelce brothers previously addressed what’s it’s like being mic’d up during an NFL game and foreshadowed the complexities involved.

If the audio of Kelce’s rant is canned forever, an unwritten agreement is at the heart of the decision.

NFL teams ultimately control what is aired, while NFL Films is tied to the NFL and granted full access by the league and its clubs.

“Being mic’d is … ,” said Jason Kelce, starting to answer an NFL Films question in December 2023.

“It’s quite a responsiblity,” said Travis, finishing his brother’s answer on their New Heights podcast.

“The stuff that gets released during the mic’d up deals ain’t half of the stuff that’s being said on the sideline, on the field,” Jason said.

“Every team and for the most part the NFL try to show the good parts of mic’d up and avoid the controversial stuff like the trash talking.”

“Everyone is in unison in trying to make the league look as good as possible,” Travis added.
