‘Sir Alex Ferguson refused to speak to me for two years after I left Man Utd for Chelsea’

Former Manchester United CEO Peter Kenyon has admitted that Sir Alex Ferguson refused to speak to him when he switched to Chelsea.

The self-confessed United fan made the move from Old Trafford to Stamford Bridge in 2003 after six years working with Ferguson. He was reportedly an influential figure in keeping the iconic Scotsman at United when he was contemplating retirement in 2002, and helped sign the likes of Rio Ferdinand Dwight Yorke.
Kenyon appeared on the ‘Rio Presents’ podcast alongside former United defender Ferdinand and presenter Stephen Howson, where he admitted that the iconic Old Trafford manager refused to speak to him when he headed to London to take the chief executive role at Chelsea in 2003, which he held until late 2009.

The 70-year-old discussed the success of Jose Mourinho after agreeing to manage Chelsea in 2004, as he said: “In his first year (Mourinho), we won the league. First time in 50 years, so he did league back-to-back and FA Cup. Alex didn’t speak to me during that period anyway, but that’s a different story.”
