Prince Harry has ‘vague hopes’ he will be ‘forgiven’ and offered ‘minor role’ in Royal Family
The Duke of Sussex is still harbouring ‘vague hopes’ that he could one day return to the royal family, even with a ‘minor royal role’.
Prince Harry and wife Meghan Markle stepped back from the royal family in 2020 and whilst they retain their royal Sussex titles, they are no longer considered working members of the royal family. However it appears that the Duke is hoping to one day be ‘forgiven’ and return to royal duties even in a smaller role than before.
Royal expert and author Tom Quinn: spoke exclusively to The Mirror as he revealed: ” Harry is under pressure to keep some sort of relationship with his family going if only for the sake of the couples’ new ventures. Harry still has vague hopes that he will be forgiven and will be offered a minor role somewhere. Even Edward VIII, after the abdication, was given a few minor roles. And Harry will be aware of that
Quinn continued: “As Meghan and Harry become an older married couple and some of the fire goes out of their relationship, there’s a real danger that Harry will feel lost – just as Edward VIII felt lost when things had cooled with Mrs Simpson. That’s the point at which Harry will really make huge efforts to build bridges with his brother and be allowed to be the part-time Royal (with Meghan) that he wants to be. But if palace officials have their way, it will never happen.”
Unlike Edward VII and his wife, Harry and Meghan are free to return to the UK without needing any permission from the monarch. However, since moving to the US, they have only returned to the UK on some rare occasions or for huge royal events, such as the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022, and her funeral later that same year. The couple have also been vocal about their safety concerns as the Sussexes no longer have taxpayer-funded security
Prince Harry is expected to return to the UK in May for a celebration of the Invictus Games, with rumours that he and older brother Prince William could be reunited in private. However, there is still doubt over whether Meghan will make the trip to London to support her husband, yet the couple are thought to be planning to relaunch their public image in the UK so the trip could see both the Duke and Duchess of Sussex together.
