Prince Harry Embarks on Solo Humanitarian Visit to Angola

Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex, has made an unannounced solo trip to Angola to support landmine clearance efforts—a cause deeply connected to his late mother, Princess Diana.

The Duke arrived on July 15 and is expected to join The HALO Trust, a leading mine-clearance organization, in walking across former landmine fields. His visit draws clear parallels to Princess Diana’s historic 1997 visit to Angola, during which she famously walked through an active minefield in Huambo. That moment helped shine a global spotlight on the issue of landmines and their impact on civilian populations.

Notably absent from this trip is Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex. According to sources cited by the Daily Mail, security concerns played a significant role in her decision to stay behind. A source reportedly stated, “The Duke won’t let his wife travel to the UK due to security concerns, so there was little chance he would allow her to join him on a trip involving landmine zones.”

Prince Harry is said to be using this visit not only to honor his mother’s legacy but also to encourage international support and government funding for continued landmine removal in the region.

This latest effort underscores the Duke’s long-standing commitment to humanitarian causes, particularly those focusing on post-conflict recovery and vulnerable communities.
