Prince Harry and Meghan’s high hopes of returning to work as royals once again

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have reportedly discussed returning as working royals due to the ongoing health crisis within the Royal Family.

The couple, who currently reside in Montecito, California, stepped down as senior royals in 2020 and live there with their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are said to have talked about a potential return to royal duties “at length” following the news that both King Charles and Kate Middleton, the Princess of Wales, are undergoing treatment for cancer.

It is said that the pair would consider coming back to the UK to undertake royal duties on “their own terms”, but the chances of this happening remain slim, according to royal expert Tom Quinn.

Palace sources have previously said they will not be invited back and that is not likely to change, even when considering Charles and Kate’s respective conditions.

Harry was reportedly left “shocked and upset” by the news of his father’s cancer diagnosis and he flew back to the UK to visit him in person in February. Likewise, the couple released a statement sending well wishes to Kate, 42, after she announced her cancer diagnosis in an emotional recorded message on Friday.

“We wish health and healing for Kate and the family and hope they are able to do so privately and in peace,” they said, addressing Kate’s video.

There has been a number of verbal disagreements between the two sides of the family in recent times, with Harry and Meghan openly critical of the Royal Family in the past. And that underlying bad blood is yet to be resolved, meaning that Harry and Meghan’s hopes of a reunion could be dashed.

“Both Meghan and Harry still hope that at some point they might be asked back to become working royals on their own terms – it’s a rapidly shrinking possibility, but the couple have talked about this at length and the fact that senior Royal numbers are seriously down at the moment has rekindled their hopes,” Quinn added
