Patrick Mahomes, NFL World React to Xavier Worthy Breaking All-Time 40-Yard Dash Record at NFL Combine
Xavier Worthy can fly.
The Texas Longhorns receiver was officially clocked at 4.21 seconds in the 40-yard dash Saturday, breaking the all-time NFL scouting combine record (4.22 seconds) set by Washington receiver John Ross III in 2017.
Worthy ran an unofficial time of 4.25 seconds in his first attempt, but he tried again in attempt to break or tie the all-time record. And he succeeded.
He was unofficially clocked at 4.22 seconds, but the official mark was measured at 4.21 seconds, putting his name alone in the record books.
History in Indianapolis
Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes was among those watching the combine who weighed in on social media. Worthy’s first attempt prompted a reaction from the reigning Super Bowl champ, who followed up with another post after the Longhorns star unofficially tied the record.
Other stars in the NFL world joined Mahomes in celebrating Worthy’s achievement:
In 14 games with the Longhorns last season, Worthy registered 75 receptions for 1,014 yards and five touchdowns.
He is currently projected to be a first- or second-round draft pick, but running the fastest 40-yard dash in league history should do nothing but raise his stock.
