NBA legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar has been taken to hospital after breaking his hip at a music concert in Los Angeles.

The former Milwaukee Bucks and Los Angeles Lakers player took a nasty fall and shattered his hip, which required treatment at a local hospital.

TMZ report that he was taken to the emergency room by paramedics after they quickly rushed to his aid at the scene, which has not been disclosed.

His representative Deborah Morales was quoted telling TMZ that the basketball hero is currently in the care of doctors and nurses at UCLA Hospital, praising the work of medics involved. There is no update yet on what condition the 7ft 2in legend has been left in after the incident.

It comes just three years after Abdul-Jabbar revealed in an essay that he had been diagnosed with prostate cancer and beaten the disease, as well as battling with chronic myeloid leukemia.

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s records and achievements
Abdul-Jabbar – who was born Ferdinand Lewis Alcindor Jr – is widely recognized as one of the greatest NBA players to grace the sport, with the former center posting the second-highest all-time points total behind LeBron James.

He is also a record six-time MVP winner in the NBA, but only had one crown to his name with the Bucks before going on to experience a golden era with Magic Johnson and the Lakers, winning four more NBA titles.

He retired from the sport at the age of 42 in 1989 with a host of records to his name and remains the all-time leader in minutes played and field goals made.
