Meghan Markle’s Last Meal Before Giving Birth Came From This Famous UK Fast Food Restaurant
There are lots of things you can try to prepare for when it comes to giving birth, but one thing you don’t always have control over is the hospital menu. Even if you’re royalty. Apparently, that’s the position Prince Harry and Meghan Markle found themselves in when Markle went into labor with their first son, Archie. Even though they were at Portland Hospital, a fancy private medical facility, the hospital food just wouldn’t do. Instead, Prince Harry had his bodyguards go out to get something a little more appropriate for royalty: fast food chicken.
The Prince revealed this information in his autobiography, Spare, and it was one of the first times either member of the couple shared details of the birth. But anyone who knows anything about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle won’t be too surprised to hear that the couple opted for chicken in the hospital, because it’s not the first time they’ve bonded over such a meal — Markle served Prince Harry “engagement chicken,” one of Ina Garten’s signature roast chicken recipes, the night he proposed, and also the first night in their home when they moved to California.
But the Prince also has a history with Nando’s. That’s because one time when he dined with a friend at the popular UK chicken chain, which specializes in spicy marinated grilled chicken, the whole world got a look at his order, and cheeky Nando’s fans the world over had a lot to say.
What did the Prince order? A lemon and herb chicken pita with extra cheese and a side of creamy mash, as well as a double chicken wrap. But the reason why people think his order is less-than-impressive is that the lemon and herb flavor is the chain’s mildest, with nary a kick of spice. (You can try a bunch of their flavors, including Harry’s favorite lemon herb, in this Nando’s Peri-Peri sauce variety pack.)

Since Nando’s is known for its spicy Peri-Peri sauce, some just don’t think ordering the mildest option is the best move. But who knows, maybe Prince Harry and Meghan Markle already had a few bottles of Nando’s hot sauce up in their room — you can even buy it online, something the royal duo are probably happy about now that they’re no longer living in the UK. That way, they can get their cheeky Nando’s whenever the craving hits, even if that means spiking Ina Garten’s roast chicken with a dash or two of the good stuff.
