Kate Middleton made her ‘one priority’ clear and it will require ‘all her reserves of courage’, says expert Jennie Bond

The Princess of Wales will require “all her reserves of courage” after making her one priority clear in an emotional video revealing her cancer diagnosis, according to an expert.

The future Queen is currently undergoing a course of chemotherapy and confirmed her diagnosis in a message recorded in Windsor on Wednesday. In it, Kate spoke of “an incredibly tough couple of months for our entire family”.

Sitting outside on a dark brown park bench, in front of a lush spring backdrop of daffodils, the mum-of-three described her plight as “a huge shock” and confirmed she had, together with her husband Prince William, 41, personally informed their three children Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, eight, and Prince Louis, five, of her diagnosis – but told them: “I am going to be ok”.

And according to ex-BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond, it’s clear Kate is eager to reassure her three children she is getting “stronger every day”. She told the Sunday Mirror: “We hear so much about duty and service when it comes to the working lives of the Royal Family but, in her supremely dignified video message about her cancer diagnosis, Catherine told us something else about her work: she said it brought her ‘a deep sense of joy’.

And I believe her when she says that she is looking forward to being back when she is fully recovered. That day, however, may well be months – or more – away. Until then we, as a society, owe her exactly what she has so humbly requested: time, space and privacy.

“She may be a royal princess, she may be our future Queen, but first and foremost, she is a wife and a mother to three young children. Cancer is a great leveller: it renders status, wealth and privilege irrelevant. But it cannot dictate how each individual deals with the diagnosis or who they choose to tell.
