Chinese men arrested for helping others sneak into Taylor Swift concert in Singapore
Yang Chenguang, 29, allegedly engaged a security guard in conversation to divert attention while Li Xiao Wei, 45, manipulated a turnstile allowing other Chinese to sneak into the concert venue on March 4, the third day of the ongoing Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour in Singapore, according to a report by Channel News Asia.
The third accomplice has been arrested but has not yet been charged, it said, adding that at least four people, aged between 21 and 25, are under investigation for criminal trespass.
Yang and Li were charged in court on Wednesday with conspiring to cheat Kallang Alive Sport Management, the organizer of the American singer-songwriter’s first show in Southeast Asia.
The court has ordered the two men to be detained for further inquiry, with a follow-up hearing scheduled for next week.
Conviction for cheating in Singapore could result in up to three years in prison, a fine, or both, while criminal trespass may lead to a maximum of three months in jail, a fine of up to US$1,500, or both.
Swift’s Eras Tour in Singapore will last until Saturday.
The star has sold out all six of her shows here. More than 300,000 tickets have been sold, with a significant number of fans traveling from other countries, according to the Singapore Tourism Board.
