Adele Slams NBA Camera Crew For Filming Her Against Her Will, Resulting In A Viral Meme

It’s been a couple of years since Adele’s NBA court side meme went viral, but the singer has recently brought attention back to it by sharing the story behind it. Adele is currently in the middle of her extended Las Vegas residency, which she claims has completely changed her life, and it was during one of those shows that she opened up about it.

Although she was very gracious and funny when telling the story, as she tends to be, there were things about the context of the meme that the audience could tell she was genuinely bothered by. Namely, the fact that she had repeatedly stated she didn’t want to be filmed, and her request was ignored.

During one of the intimate shows from her Las Vegas residency, “Weekends with Adele”, the singer decided to open up to the audience and shared the events that led to her hilarious NBA court side meme.

“Do you remember that viral meme of me looking like I don’t give a flying f*ck?” She addressed the audience, causing a big laugh.

Then Adele went on to explain that, when the camera panned to her and gave the internet the viral meme, she was searching for Michael Jordan with her eyes, and that intense concentration is what came off as disdain.

The reason it didn’t occur to her that she was being recorded was because she explicitly told the camera crew she didn’t want to be filmed.

“The people with the camera came and asked me twice. They were like, ‘Do you mind if we film you? Can we put you on the screen?'” She declined both times, and even when she realized they had ignored her, she still didn’t know she was being shown on TV and not just in the room.

“I was very annoyed because I had asked not to be filmed… I was like, ‘these motherf****rs have come back and are filming me against my will’.”

Although Adele knows that she will inevitably bring attention to herself pretty much wherever she goes, for someone who has said many times that she gets nervous around crowds, it’s bound to bother her.

I know it sounds crazy, but I really don’t like being famous, right?” Adele shared at the show. “So, obviously, I know I’m sitting court side at a basketball game, you’re asking for it.”

Adele was there with her boyfriend, Rich Paul, who is a sports agent. He was mingling and talking to other people when the camera panned to the singer, as it’s his job, which left her to enjoy the game by herself at that moment.

When she realized she was being filmed, she was understandably annoyed, despite knowing it could happen. And not only was she filmed against her will, but when the video went viral as a meme, she was also criticized for her appearance, with people saying she had gotten lip fillers.

Adele clarified that as well in the show, saying “The reason my lips looked like I had filler — because I’ve got naturally big lips, I don’t need filler — was because I was sulking.”
