However, this American WTA prodigy’s source of brilliance and confidence might come from her tennis icon and legendary WTA star Venus Williams.
Coco Gauff recently shared an image on her official Instagram story, where fans spotted a young Gauff attending her icon Venus Williams’s match against Bethanie Mattek-Sands at the US Open tournament in 2012. This image surely took Gauff to a whirlwind of nostalgia as she attended Williams’s first-round match. Delighted Coco Gauff, reshared the image on her Instagram story and wrote- “7 years later I played her and then 11 years later I won the thing. Life is crazy whoever found this picture wow thank you.”
This reigning US Open champion seemed truly delighted and grateful as fans made her remember the good old days of her watching Venus Williams not just play but win her titles. Gauff further added to her excitement and wrote- “Wowwwwwww no way someone found this. Gauff who has been an ardent Venus Williams fan has always spoken about the American WTA legend’s inspiration in her life. After defeating Venus Williams at the Wimbledon 2019, fifteen-year-old Coco Gauff became a sensation. However, that couldn’t stop her from revealing her deepest teachings from her idol.
Venus Williams will always hold a special place in Coco Gauff’s professional tennis career as the former inspired Gauff to create an identity beyond tennis. After storming the headlines by beating Venus Williams in 2019, Gauff said in an interview– “She [Venus] taught me the importance of humility, and the importance of enjoying life outside of tennis, and also the importance of letting your emotions out on the court.”
This reigning US Open champion further recalled breaking her racquet in front of Venus Williams during their doubles event and how Williams encouraged her to let her emotions out. Gauff said- “She was like, ‘That’s okay. That’s what you needed to do in that moment.’”
