Vergara-Manganiello divorce settlement: how will they divide up their assets?
Sofia Vergara and Joe Manganiello have reportedly agreed to divide their assets according to their prenuptial agreement.
The celebrity gossip magazine People has had access to the former couple’s divorce settlement, which has been finalised nine months after they announced their decision to split, following seven and a half years of marriage.
Per People, Vergara and Manganiello’s divorce documents show that they did not share “any community property” during their marriage. Vergara’s name is reported to be on the deeds of the $26 million Beverly Hills mansion in which they lived together
The actors will both keep hold of clothes, jewellery and “miscellaneous personal effects” that they each own, as well as individual financial earnings accrued during their marriage and since their separation.
Vergara and Manganiello also waived their right to spousal support, meaning that neither will have to help the other cover their day-to-day expenses.
In July last year, Vergara and Manganiello announced their split in a statement shared with the entertainment news outlet Page Six.
“We have made the difficult decision to divorce,” they said. “As two people that love and care for one another very much, we politely ask for respect for our privacy at this time as we navigate this new phase of our lives.”
In divorce filings, they listed the reason for their break-up as “irreconcilable differences”. Speaking to the Spanish newspaper El País in January, Vergara revealed that she and Manganiello had opted to go their separate ways after failing to agree on whether or not to have children.
My marriage broke up because my husband was younger; he wanted to have kids and I didn’t want to be an old mom,” Vergara, 51, said. “I feel it’s not fair to the baby.
“I respect whoever does it, but that’s not for me anymore. I had a son at 19, who is now 32, and I’m ready to be a grandmother, not a mother.”
