Prince Harry and Meghan Markle respond to Princess Kate’s cancer diagnosis
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, have issued a response to the news that Catherine, Princess of Wales, has been diagnosed with cancer.
The royal couple, who now live in California with their two children, have wished the Princess “health and healing”. They haven’t confirmed whether or not they have spoken directly with Kate and William, as the pair’s relationship with the Palace remains tense.
We wish health and healing for Kate and the family, and hope they are able to do so privately and in peace.” Harry, 39, and Meghan, 42, said in a statement to Us Weekly.
Kate Middleton revealed today she was diagnosed with cancer after undoing abdominal surgery earlier this year. It’s unclear what kind of cancer the Princess has, or how long her treatment will be, but the Palace has confirmed that she is undergoing chemotherapy for the disease.
In the video, released today, Catherine asks for privacy, and confirms the delay in telling the public was due to the royal family, including her husband Prince William, needing time to share the news with their children, Princes George and Louis, and Princess Charlotte.
The news comes after weeks of speculation and online conspiracy theories about the Princesses’ absence, after a portrait released to celebrate Mother’s Day was found to have been digitally doctored.
King Charles is also currently undergoing treatment for prostate cancer, revealed earlier this year after he underwent surgery for an enlarged prostate. According to both Palace statements, the prognosis for Kate and King Charles is positive, with Kate sharing what she has told her children of the news: “I’m going to be ok… As I’ve said to them, I am well, and getting stronger every day by focusing on the things that will help me heal in my mind, body and spirit.”
