HANG IT UP’ – Coco Gauff and Jessica Pegula’s Miami Open Embarrassment Turns Fans Against the American Duo
Fans are disappointed with the brilliant partnership between two American WTA stars, Jessica Pegula and Coco Gauff. These two tennis stars have reportedly confirmed not to play any more doubles together after the 2024 season to prioritize their singles careers. Gauff and Pegula were preparing for the Olympics despite their decision for the next season. However, the duo couldn’t manage to deliver a good performance.
While Coco Gauff and Jessica Pegula reached the prestigious Indian Wells tournament’s quarterfinals, their Miami Open 2024 performance was terrible as they had to exit in the first round. Now, after their average performances since last year, fans wish these doubles stars to think again about their tennis partnership
After the Indian Wells performance, Pegula and Gauff decided to try the WTA 1000 tournament in Miami. However, things didn’t work as expected by the American tennis prodigies. Their match was against the doubles wild card players, Ashlyn Krueger and Sloane Stephens. Both Stephens and Kruger performed well from the beginning by continuously breaking Gauff and Pegula’s serves
After that, Krueger and Stephens established a solid 5-0 lead against the American WTA stars. While they lost a break after this, the duo still managed to win the first set by 6-3. In the second set of the game, Pegula and Gauff established a two-break lead for winning the second set. In the third set, a tie-breaker was needed and the American WTA stars lost by 8-10 against Krueger and Stephens.
Previously, Gauff and Pegula spoke about prioritizing the clay court more for doubles since they are prepping for the Olympics. However, fans think that this is not a good idea.
Jessica Pegula and Coco Gauff’s recent doubles failure at the Miami Open tournament disappointed fans. So much so that they took to social media platforms to describe their feelings. Fans felt that Gauff and Pegula needed to reconsider their partnership as they had maxed out their coordination.
