The drama surrounding Kate Middleton and her photoshopped Mother’s Day picture has reached Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, more specifically, the pregnancy announcement photo. Misan Harriman, friend of the couple and the photographer behind the portrait has released a statement following allegations made by Daily Mail. The outlet reported

that the London-based photographer had doctored the image that was shot remotely in 2021, based on an interview he gave a year later. While appearing on the BBC Radio 3 podcast Private Passions in 2022, Harriman was asked by the host Michael Berkeley, “They weren’t actually under a willow tree, were they? They were lying outside in a meadow, weren’t they?” to which the photographer responded,

Yeah they were lost in their love, at home, in their garden, comfortable, celebrating new joy.” Harriman has now clarified that he was not “switching out trees and meadows” in the portrait and was simply avoiding a “leading question”, which he gets quite often when it comes to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

After releasing his statement, Harriman took to Instagram to reveal the unedited portrait, which is originally in color, to prove that he had only changed it to be the grayscale version that was first shared with the world. The photo which announced Meghan Markle’s second pregnancy with Princess Lilibet, sees her in a bright yellow dress, lying down on the lap of Prince Harry, who is wearing a light-colored button-down and blue
jeans. “The original jpeg without the black and white grade, I expect a full apology and retraction from @dailymail @telegraph,” Harriman captioned the photo. “No trees or meadows were moved or swapped, this is the image straight out of camera. Also that is a Jacaranda tree, not a willow tree.” The photo was also backed by a screenshot of the metadata showing the image’s various specs and it had been taken on an Apple iPad.

This allegation is not the only way Meghan and Prince Harry have been added to the conversation surrounding Kate, Princess of Wales’ edited Mother’s Day photo. Recently, an insider claiming to be close to the couple told Page Six, “If Harry and Meghan had ever encountered the same issue they would have been annihilated. The same rules do not apply to both couples. This isn’t a mistake that Meghan would ever make … she has a keen eye and freakish attention to detail.” Now, the couple’s spokesperson has cleared the air by telling Newsweek, “With respect to Page Six, that did not come from us.
