EXCLUSIVE: ‘Queen’ Serena Williams’ Generational Impact Highlighted by Reggie Bush With a Plea for Coco Gauff
The impact of Serena Williams on tennis is quite apparent. Many in the tennis world have seen her accomplishments. The praise for her achievements continues long after her retirement. Her impact has transcended the sport and has seeped into other fields as well. Her effect has also been acknowledged by NFL legend Reggie Bush, who praised her as the queen.
The NFL legend shared his thoughts about Serena Williams at the Desert Smash event, which is being covered by EssentiallySports. The younger Williams sister seems to be the favorite at the event as another personality picked her as the GOAT.
Reggie Bush is a former football running back who made an appearance at the Desert Smash charity event in La Quinta, California. EssentiallySports was in the venue to cover the event and talked to Bush about tennis. The former NFL star was asked if the sport would speak more to the younger audience. Bush replied by saying that it already does, owing a lot to Serena Williams.
Bush said, “We have women like Coco Gauff. Serena Williams who is the queen, who’s really paved the way for people of color, women of color, to play tennis at a high level, I think that’s all you can ask for. You know, for someone to set the bar and continue to raise the bar. I think Serena set the bar; you got young players like Gauff to take it even higher. So to me, that’s what I love seeing about sport.”
Yvonne Orji, a Nigerian-American actress and comedian, participated in the Desert Smash event and was interviewed by EssentiallySports. When asked to give her name for the GOAT of the sport, Orji said, “I got to say the Williams sisters. I grew up watching Jennifer Capriati, Andre Agassi, Pete Sampras, so many greats.”
Orji also showed love for the former number 1 at an event where she was already being loved. Desert Smash will be followed by the Indian Wells Masters, and we might see more players come forward to talk about their adoration of the Williams sisters.
