Meghan Markle and Prince Harry Celebrate Princess Lilibet’s Third Birthday
Lilibet Diana celebrates her third birthday today, and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been celebrating with their little Princess. According to reports, Harry and Meghan held a get-together for Lili this past weekend at their home in Montecito, California. People Magazine described the gathering as a “pre-birthday bash” and said that close friends and family attended.
A spokesperson for the Sussexes today did not comment on Lili’s birthday or provide any further information on how the family is marking the day. Since Harry and Meghan stepped away from royal life they have kept their children largely out of the spotlight and have chosen not to routinely release images of them on their birthdays.
Lilibet became the first of Queen Elizabeth’s great-grandchildren to be born outside of the UK when she was born at 11:40 a.m. on June 4, 2021 at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital. She was named after Queen Elizabeth’s childhood nickname.
During their trip to Nigeria last month Harry and Meghan occasionally spoke with people they met about how Lili and her big brother Archie, five, are getting on. “She’s about to turn three,” Meghan said about Lili. “And a few weeks ago she looked at me and she would just see the reflection in my eyes. And she was, mama, I see me in you. Oh, now she was talking really, literally. But I hung onto those words in a very different way. And I thought, yes, I do see me and you, and you see me and you, but as I look around this room, I see myself in all of you as well.”
When Archie and Lili were born, Queen Elizabeth was still on the throne and convention dictated that they were not able to use the titles Prince and Princess. However, when King Charles succeeded to the throne in September 2022 it meant that Archie and Lili were the grandchildren of the sovereign down the male line and as such they became a Prince and Princess.
