Kate ‘heartbroken’ over William’s plans for George but has finally accepted his ‘destiny’
Kate Middleton has reportedly given into Prince William’s plans to have their eldest son Prince George follow in his footsteps and head off to one of the country’s most prestigious boarding schools, according to an insider.
The Prince and Princess of Wales were seen touring round Eton College’s headquarters with the young heir last June which sparked speculation about whether or not George would attend the same school as his father William and uncle Prince Harry in just a few years time.
A source claimed last year that the Princess of Wales is dreading the time when her son packs up and leaves for boarding school but she has finally accepted that it’s part of his destiny as a royal, the Express reports.
The insider said: “Kate long disagreed with her husband about sending him away, even though it’s tradition.
“Kate thinks sending him to such a stuffy, upper-crust institution goes against all of their efforts to modernise the monarchy.
“Plus, she’ll miss George desperately. She and William argued about it for years, but he has finally won.”
William first enrolled at the Berkshire school in 1995 where he boarded at the school during the weeks and took a break at the weekend to visit his grandmother, the late Queen Elizabeth at the nearby Windsor Castle.
The insider claims that Kate “finally gave in” after accepting George’s desire “to be just like his father,” and join the £15,432-a-term exclusive school.
Speaking to In Touch Weekly, they added: “But she’s still heartbroken. She was horribly bullied at her first boarding school, and can’t bear the thought of George suffering through that.”
However, the Princess of Wales still has a few years to cherish her eldest son’s company before he heads off to boarding school as pupils at Eton usually begin at 13.
