On the Polynesian island of Motunui, people religiously worshiped the goddess Te Fiti, who brought life to the ocean, using the rock as her heart and source of strength. Maui, a shape-shifting demigod and master of sailing, stole hearts to give humanity the power of creation. However, Te Fiti dissolves, Maui is attacked by Te Ka, a mountain demon, loses his full magical answers, and his heart falls into the abyss. A millennium later, Moana, daughter of the Motunui chieftain Tui, was chosen by the ocean to return Te Fiti’s heart. However, Tui arrives and takes Moana away, making her displeased. Tui and Moana’s mother, Sina, tries to keep her away from the ocean to prepare her for ascension to the fourth way as head of the island.
Moana (also known as Vaiana or Oceania, in many markets) is a 2016 American 3D computer-animated musical adventure film produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios and released by Walt Disney Pictures. This is Disney’s 56th animated film. Directed by Ron Clements and John Musker and co-directed by Don Hall and Chris Williams, the film introduces Auliʻi Cravalho as Moana and features the voices of Dwayne Johnson, Rachel House, Temuera Morrison, Jemaine Clement, Nicole Scherzinger and Alan Tudyk. The film features songs written by Lin-Manuel Miranda, Opetaia Foa’i and Mark Mancina, and the score was also composed by Mancina.
